Some time ago Chrysler announced the Challenger was going to get the all-wheel drive treatment. Amidst some skepticism and resistance, the world was very excited and a little curious to see if FCA would actually do it – and what it would be like.
Well world, it looks like we are about to find out. Production of the new AWD Challenger begins January 2017.
Its heart will remain the same – a 3.6L 305hp V6 producing 268 lb. ft. of torque. Nothing new or exciting there, this is the same V6 workhouse we find in different variations in the existing Challenger, Charger, Caravan, Journey … okay, pretty much everything they make.
It looks like Chrysler can’t quite let go of tradition though. 100% of the power is said to be directed to the rear wheels, the front differential will only engage when its brain senses conditions call for the extra grip.
But you know, baby steps.
